It’s a well-known fact that Wellingtonians are a caffeinated bunch. With an excellent flat white around every corner, we rely on a good coffee hit to get us through the day.

One of the original pioneers of the capital’s coffee scene is Havana Coffee Works. They’ve been pumping out freshly roasted beans from their Tory Street roastery since 1989, and can grind them any way you like. Pick up a bag or two for the perfect Wellington gift or, if you have a three-plus cups a day friend, grab them a coffee subscription to fuel their addiction.

Wellington is almost as crazy about beer as it is about coffee (well, depending on who you ask).

Make it a very hoppy holiday with a local tipple from Fortune Favours under the tree. Visit their brewery on Leeds St or shop online for their range of beers and gift packs. If you’ve got a fussy friend, mix it up with a Taste of Summer pack, or keep it classy with a glass and a cannon – your choice of flavour, that they fill fresh on-site in their specially made cans.

Capital magazine subscription

Pirie Street, Mount Victoria, Wellington

What’s more Wellington than a magazine about Wellington? Give the stories of the city to your proud Wellingtonian mate, or friendly neighbour. You can gift them a subscription to the magazine, which comes out every other month, and includes interesting stories of art, culture, cuisine, and cool people in the capital.

All gift subscriptions purchased before 22 December will receive a free tea towel. Illustrator Suzanne Lustig says her design for the tea towel was inspired by joggers pushing through a northerly on Wellington's windy waterfront. It doesn’t get more Welly than that.
